The First Tee Snohomish County will produce a scramble tournament hosted by Snohomish Golf Course on Monday, September 8, 2008.

WAL-MART areas stores have pledged $10,000 into The First Tee Snohomish County student scholarship fund as Title Sponsor of the event.

Other sponsors and a portion of the player entry fee will match the WAL-MART sponsorship to generating a seperate $10,000 in charitable prize money to be given directly to the charities represented by the winning foursomes.

The distribution and number of foursomes receiving the prize money directly to other charities registered will be $3,000 for first, $1,500 for second, and $750 for third, in OPEN GROSS and NET divisions.

The top foursomes from each division will receive prepaid entry into the National Charity Golf Association event in Las Vegas in April 2009.   Other symbolic prizes, merchandise and awards will be given to top foursomes and other foursomes by random drawings.

Detail at:  www.nationalcharitygolfassociation.org/

The WAL-MART First Tee Open will be limited to 32 foursomes representing up to 32 different charities. Foursome will be comprised of amateur players of any age.

Each local charity will register their foursome with The First Tee Snohomish County by submitting or guaranteeing the registration fee of $400 before July 15.  Each charity can decide how to generate registration fees; whether paid by their players, sponsors, or by their own funds.  Registration goes up to $500 after July 15.

Any net proceeds from the event will be added to the $10,000 in WAL-MART sponsorship into the scholarships fund for The First Tee Snohomish County.

Ideas for how other regional charities can leverage the WAL-MART Charity Open to add value.

1.  Another charity with their own golf event could give their winners the opportunity to play in the WAL-MART Charity Open for free and try to win for that charity.

The tournament director for another charity event receives the added marketing incentive to attract and retain their annual players.  Their annual event could promise to sponsor their winner into the WAL-MART Charity Open.

3.  Other charities without their own event can identify from their constituents the talented amatuer golfers to play on their behalf.   They could also use the event to recognize and thank important contributors or volunteers by entering those folks.

Narrative Example for a Charity that has their own event:

Puget Sound XYZ Charity conducts their annual golf tournament fundraiser event in July 2008.

XYZ registers with The First Tee Snohomish County to guarantee to send their winning foursome to the WAL-Mart Charity Open.

XYZ's event is promoted on The First Tee Snohomish County website as a partnering local event.

XYZ markets their annual golf event in July, and their prospects are informed that if they should win the event, they will get free entry into the WAL-MART Charity Open in September to represent XYZ.

XYZ organizers carve out the $400 registration fee for the WAL-MART Charity Open from the net of their event, or, get that sponsored by a supporter.

The winning team of the XYZ event in July is registered with The First Tee office as the official XYZ participants in the WAL-MART Charity Open.

The WAL-MART Charity Open heavily marketed throughout the golf season via the website, print, and on course collateral.

The WAL-MART Charity Open is conducted on September 8, 2008.   The First Tee students, parents, and volunteers act as scorers and markers in for each group.  The winning foursomes are determined and the XYZ foursome finishes first.  $5,000 in charitable prize funds is given directly to XYZ.  The XYZ foursome recieves merchandise and other prizes as well a pre-paid trip to the National Charity Golf Association event in Las Vegas in the spring of 2009.

The process is repeated for 2009.

Narrative Example for a Charity without their own golf event:

Charity ABC used to conduct an annual golf fundraiser but has decided to discontinue it.   Or, Charity ABC has never conducted an annual golf event.

They still know who the best golfers are from their list of supporters and past event participants.  Or, they know of good golfers within their list of friends.  They invite those golfers to play in the WAL-MART Charity Open on behalf of ABC.

Four golfers agree to pay the $100 each to represent ABC, and they win the WAL-MART Charity Open event and generate $5,000 for the ABC mission.

The process is repeated for 2009.

List of Benefits for All Involved.

The First Tee Snohomish County receives added exposure in the community as the creator/producer of the event as a charitable collaborator.  The First Tee students with financial need enjoy the scholarship help made possible by the WAL-MART Charity Open to further their Life Skill development and personal growth in golf.

The presenting sponsor, WAL-MART, receives the highly visible position with all 32 charities represented in the event, as well as, the innovative Founding Partners of this annual event.   The sponsorship consolidates their charitable support for golf events, rather than, or in addition to, many smaller gifts to local charity golf tournaments each year.

The host course, Snohomish Golf Course, positions itself and its membership as a collaborative charitable partner. The course, ammenities, and staff are put infront of other charitable organizations, some that conduct their own golf tournaments, as well as the many individual golfers from around the area that could be prospective members or represent other events. The golf course also receives the revenue from the event contract.

The participating golfers enjoy the challenge of the competition and the fun of playing in a beautiful setting.  They have the satisfaction of knowing that it is an event that supports The First Tee as wel as a variety of good causes represented by the many charities participating, and, The First Tee Snohomish County.

The community benefits by charities strengthening their own well-attended local golf outings each year, charities that communicate and work together, the charities that share in the prize fund, and the support of the delivery of The First Tee Life Skills curriculum.
