Grass Roots Jr. Golf Foundation is the 501c3 tax-exempt charity, approved by First Tee National Organization (www.thefirsttee.org) to operate as a local chapter; The First Tee Snohomish County (TFTSC).
The First Tee students progress through 5 certification levels (PLAYer, PAR, BIRDIE, EAGLE, ACE) combining golf skill, golf knowledge, etiquette, and The First Tee Life Skills curriculum.
Students ages 5 - 7 enjoy a modified curriculum called TARGET.
Students ages 8 and up start at the PLAYer Level certification. Classes meets the same day each week during a sesson. There are six core lessons in each level. Students certifiy through each level though a combination of golf skill, written testing, and demonstration of Life Skill understanding.
There are Spring (6 weeks), Summer (8 weeks), and Fall (6 weeks) Sessions. A "pre-season" session is available at no added fee for those that enroll before February 1.
The First Tee registration is a onetime fee of $20 for all first time students. The tuition for each class in a session is $100 per student. Scholarships are available to families with need up to 75% of the tuition. Students enrolled and active in the Birdie Level classes and higher levels can enjoy reduced rates on practice balls and junior rounds at local affiliate courses. These incentives increase with each higher certification level.
TFTSC also offers 4 day Golf Camps for $100 per student. Scholarships for camps are available up to a 50% reduction. Camps include a total of 6 hours of instruction on putting, pitching, full swing and ettiquette over the first 3 days. The last day of the program includes a 9 hole round of golf at a local course.
Completion of a Development Camp, or a private golf lesson to judge readiness, is recommended before registration into The First Tee Life Skills Program.
Private lessons are available by appointment with our Certified First Tee Coaches. An hourly rate donation to The First Tee is requested.
1. When do The First Tee classes occur?
The First Tee offers classes within Spring, Summer and Fall session. CLICK HERE for a link to our 2009 Calendar. Spring Session runs after Spring Break through May. Summer Session is after July 4th through late August. Fall Session will be held in Mid-September through mid October.
2. Where are The First Tee classes offered? PLAYer and PAR LEVEL classes will be offered at Choice Turf Driving Range in Snohomish, Kenwanda in Snohomish, Battle Creek in Marysville, and Lynnwood Golf Course. BIRDIE, EAGLE, and ACE LEVEL classes will be offered at Lynnwood and Snohomish Golf Course.
3. How much does it cost? There is a $20 one-time The First Tee registration fee per family. Each class tuition is $100 per session. There are no additional costs for classes, equipment, and activities directly related to the program. This fee may be reduced through scholarship funds in the case of financial need.

5.How do I sign up for classes?
Find the session, location, and time of the class you desire on the CALENDAR page. Check available space on the ROSTER page. Download a registration form and mail in with payment, or, call the number above to use a credit card.
6.What are the TFTSC classes like?
Classes will be taught in groups of no more than 16 students with a student:coach ratio of no more than 8:1. Classes are on the same day of the week at the same location. Classes will last 2 hours. Classes will include all Core Lessons, Rules & Etiquette, and Manners & Playing. Certification will be “progressive” with Golf Skills tests and Life Skills assessments taking place each week during the classes. Pass a written test at sessions’ end and you could be on your way to the next level in The First Tee Life Skills Experience. CLICK HERE FOR LINK TO CURRICULUM
7.What age and ability level does the program include?
Children ages 8 – 18 years old may participate in the certification levels. We also have fun, introductory classes for 5 – 7 year olds called TARGET. Students will work on a particular class level and be assessed on skills and knowledge from the beginning level called PLAYer. Students then move into Par Level, Birdie level, Eagle level and finally advanced level – ACE.
8.How long does it take to complete the entire program?
Every student is unique. Students are encouraged to participate at whatever pace works best for them. This approach will enable the highest levels of enjoyment for all students. A student who attends regularly and is able to demonstrate the Life Skills for their level can expect to complete one level per season.
9. What are the other benefits of The First Tee Experience?
Once enrolled in the Birdie Level, students may play at local "Affiliate courses". Some restrictions may apply. We will offer incentives for various accomplishments within the program. We will offer periodic activities, parties and tournaments.
